The difference between a calm move and a chaotic one is rarely the movers. It is what happened in the two weeks before they arrived. This checklist is the one we share with families relocating within Lucknow or moving out of the city.
Two weeks before
- Sort every room. Make three piles: move, sell or give away, discard. Anything you have not used in a year goes in the second or third pile. Fewer items means fewer boxes and a lower bill.
- Fix the date and book the movers. Month-ends and weekends fill up first. Confirm the pickup address, the delivery address and whether both buildings have lift access.
- Start a documents bag. Aadhaar, PAN, passports, property papers, school certificates, insurance policies. This bag travels with you, never in the truck.
- Use up the freezer and the kitchen stock. Plan meals around what you already have.
One week before
- Collect packing material. Double-wall cartons in two sizes, bubble wrap, packing paper, tape, markers and zip bags for screws and cables. If you have booked our packing service, we bring all of this.
- Pack the rooms you use least. Store room, guest room, books, decor, out-of-season clothes.
- Label every box on two sides with the room and a one-line description: "Kitchen – glassware – fragile".
- Photograph electronics before disconnecting so the cables go back the same way.
- Arrange utilities. Inform your gas agency, internet provider and society office about the move-out and move-in dates.
Two days before
- Defrost the fridge and let the washing machine drain.
- Pack a first-night box: bedsheets, towels, toiletries, chargers, a kettle, basic utensils, medicines and a change of clothes for everyone.
- Keep cash and valuables separate and decide who carries them.
Moving day
- Walk the movers through the house and point out fragile or heavy pieces.
- Count the boxes as they are loaded and again as they are unloaded.
- Check cupboards, lofts and the balcony before locking up.
